Hello everyone. Today I officially have joined the wonderful team at Clever Dexter! I have been so excited to share this news with all of you. Please do check out Clever Dexter challenges over at their website to join in on the fun and win some amazing prizes from some very generous sponsors!
Today’s card is by sponsored by Stampers Delights for the Clever Dexter challenge theme of the month “Hello Summer”. Mermaids scream summer and I had a blast making this card!
I started with a white neenah cardstock that I trimmed down to 4.25″ x 5.5″ and inked it up with distress oxide blueprint sketch. Then I used Hero arts Waves stencil and embossed it using my BigShot and then I lightly grazed over the raised edges with some sandpaper so that the paint peels off. It gave the effect of waves with the white bubbling water.
Next, I used Pinkfresh Studios die to cut out the inverted scallop. I also die cut another white cardstock of the same die which I glued at the base of the top front with the edges peaking through. I again used blueprint sketch to gently leave some shading over it.
I tried a new trick that I learnt from a dear friend Sasha (her Insta handle is love.builds_up.crafts). She had shown a video where she put crystal glaze on acetate and then added glitter to make a solid piece of translucent beauty. I, however, didn’t do it on acetate, but just some clear film from a packaging. To step it up, I did add some distress oxide inks Broken china and Faded jeans with Snowflake tinsel embossing powder from Ranger. The end result was a much bigger piece that I trimmed down to a circle to add as the background where our mermaid is.
I used double sided tape to adhere this piece on the base of the 120 lb white cardstock and then the rest of the front piece was glued on.
The mermaid and fish were colored in using the Arteza brush pens (skill that I am still maneuvering). Then I fuzzy cut around the image and glued it on some foam stickers to give some dimension. I added the white enamel dots as bubbles near the fish and also added Rangers gold liquid pearls on the dots around the scalloped circle.
Then sentiment “Keep your fin up” is also from the same digital stamp set from Stampers Delights. I tried to make some kelp around the sentiment to add some more fun to this card. Finally, the “sending love and hugs” sentiment is from Altenew.
This card has a lot of different elements and I have experimented with a lot of new ideas and love the way the card has turned out! Do join in on the challenge as we would love to see your lovely creations and win some prizes. Check Clever Dexter on FB and Instagram for some more inspirational creations.
