Hello there. It’s been a while since I posted here. I think just the little things in life are adding up and taking up some extra time. Although, I keep crafting any time I get, but I haven’t been totally consistent. To break that spell, here is the card I made for the new challenge over at Crafter’s Café Challenge blog along with my DT. The theme this time is “Favorite Color Combo“.
So, when it comes for favorite color combo, I can never get enough of Pinks and Blues with a hint of Gold. That’s what I recreated here with this gorgeous geisha image from Sheepski Designs. I knew I wanted the kimono to have hints of gold, so that’s where I started. Since this was a digital image, and I don’t have any of the fancy machines, I just took out my Versamarker watermark pen and filled in the little flowers and added Hero Arts gold embossing powder as well as Wow! gold pearl embossing powder to create the gold elements.
Next, was to color in the robe and honestly, I went completely old-school here and simply used classic sketch pens from Paper Mate. For the umbrella, I used highlighters! Yes, that’s what I used. The hair and skin tones were colored in using Arteza brush pens.
Next step involved the background. I simply used a light blue color to paint the background with a brush and after drying the first layer, I also smooshed some of the remaining blue paint to give a cloudy background. I wanted to have cherry blossoms as the next layer, but I didn’t have any stamps or dies. So, I drew the branches by hand with brown paint. Using a small, hard round brush, I dabbed little pink splotches to represent buds.
For the other flowers, I used distress oxide Pink Flamingo on a paper and die cut using Sizzix flower dies to create the ‘cherry blossoms”. Using a paper quilling pen over a soft rubber surface, I pressed into the center so that the flowers lift up from the sides. I added hints of gold using a gold pen in the center of the flowers. I glued them randomly along with the image over a foam base.
Finally, I had some leftover blue background, over which I stamped the sentiments from Waffle Flower Label Greetings stamp set.
This card is a typical A2 card and adhered the entire background over a folded notecard.
This fortnight we have three amazing sponsors: Sheepski Designs, Stamper’s Delights and Decosse’s Dynamite Doodles. They each have wonderful prizes to be won. Do take some inspiration from my card and head on over to the blog to enter your creations for the challenge along with your fav color combo. Can’t wait to see them!
