Clever Dexter DT – Polkadoodles Cupcake party

Hey there. Thank you for stopping by.

Our April month challenge is ongoing at Clever Dexter with the theme Use Watercolor. We would love to see your cards or creations using this theme, and you could win prizes from Polkadoodles, who is our sponsor for this month.

You can find a lot of the inspiration from my DT members here and also here. Don’t forget to tag us on social media using #cleverdexterchallenge.

Now onto my card.

I love using watercolor crayons a lot of times and Mungyo is one of my favorite brands. I printed these Cherry Cream cupcakes in different sizes on watercolor paper. The way to use watercolor crayons is to either directly color in little parts of the image and then add a watercolor brush to fill the area OR you can scribble a bit of the crayon on a plastic or glass surface and proceed to use a brush and paint the image.

As I wanted the lines of the crayons to show as layers in the cream portion of the cupcake, I went with the first way. After coloring all of them, I fussy cut each of them and added some white gelly roll to give some dimension.

For the card, I went with a slimline card measuring 8.5 x 3.5 inches. For the background, I chose a smaller acetate sheet, measuring approximately 8.25 x 3.25 inches. I added double tape on the long side of the acetate and then using different colored thread, I just kept going around. The double sided tape helped to position the thread in place while I was spooling.

I adhere this acetate piece with another double sided tape, again on one side only, as the other side (the top) would be exposed. For the top portion, I used glue dots strategically behind thread, so that it wouldn’t show.

Next comes the assembly. I added the cupcakes, some with foam to add dimension and used Twiddler’s Nook embellishment to glue them down. The sentiment is from Paper House Productions that I cut down, and added “it’s cupcakes” using a banner die and wrote it in by myself.

There you go. I love using watercolors, coz there are so many more other mediums apart from traditional watercolor paints which adds more to your watercolor style. What is your favorite one? Do share your fav one with me, and if you do make a card, that can also be entered in our challenge at Clever Dexter till the end of this month.
